Yes, it is stealing. The way we treat our veterans is disgraceful! The men & women who have put their lives on the line for this country deserve to be treated so much better than they are. Shame on us for not being 'up in arms' about this.

No. Stealing is defined as the UNLAWFUL removal of property belonging to someone else. If the veteran did not file his claim in the time frame alloted by the IRS and the tax laws, then he's just SOL.
But no, it's not stealing.

That's the way the government is. Look at the long distance excise tax that was finally ruled invalid. Do we get back every cent. No, only the past three years or $30.

Time to raise a stink with the media and government officals involved, it ticks me off that a veteran who has served our country would be shafted like this.

this is true with normal taxpayers as well, (Ioften don't claim for three years and get a fat check every three) however if this is a veteran who is not supposed to be taxed in the first place this needs national t.v. time

Like most government agencies their rules are their rules but I would suggest you contact the USMilitary or the Vets to see if they cannot do something about this as I'm sure this person could use the money.

Yes. Plain and simple. Government theft from a citizen.
Good luck getting the populace to resist this stuff. We're too used to the abuse.

you can't beat the IRS, but in my eyes they should give it back to him. First because he in the military, second because the IRS has enough money

I think it's your responsibility to know what goes on with your money, albeit, the gov't needs to be responsible too, but with the magnitude that they deal with, a mistake is bound to happen every now and then.
