The air force is part of the military. Even though they do a good job and protect us, to me, the Air Force means"we move you around a lot and ruin your life."

A more correct term today would be "The United States Air and Cyberspace Force" as the USAF has added areas of authority over space and cyberspace.
The official Mission Statement of the USAF as of 12/5/2005 is:
The mission of the United States Air Force is to deliver sovereign options for the defense of the United States of America and its global interests -- to fly and fight in Air, Space, and Cyberspace.

The Air Force is that part of the military that does most of it's defending of the country from the air. the aviation branch of the armed forces. many of the people serving in the AF never leave the ground, but are necessary for those that do to be safe.
