The oldest film (not a feature) I've seen would have to be that of a train arriving at a station--it was shot in France during the late 1890's, lasts less than a minute, and was one of the first films ever to be projected to a paying audience.
(I wasn't in that audience, by the way.)

The oldest feature film I've seen was D.W.Griffith's The Birth of a Nation (1915)

The Lost World based off of Arthur Conan Doyle's play, The General starring Buster Keaton, and another one with Charlie Chaplin I think called City Lights or something.

Wings and Metropolis both 1927 also watch silent movies staring Buster Keaton. If you haven't seen it yet take the time to see Wings. The Flying some of the greatest on film.

I'm from Chicago, and during school and family trips to the Museum of Science and Industry, we watched silent movies at The Penny Arcade (I think that was the name). They played all the old ones with the Gish sisters and Buster Keaton, all the old classics. Turner Classic Movies also plays those old movies; they are worth watching.
