i can play games, play audio cds, listen to radio ect on net ect but i tried to instal a karaoke cd for daughter but it wont work, it says to check sound card?

Hmm, you would have the altec '97 driver. If you can play music and hear it, then you have to have audio card somewhere.

Is your computer up to date? Read and download the bottom URL. The laptop is new.

Now the karaoke cd might not work, cuz you need a driver to make the cd compatible with your computer to the cd. Now make sure and read what the cd requiredments are on side of the package. Make sure it is not for Mac for one thing. I did that once. But if I install it and the problem persists call the number on the cd or call dell help line if you are still under warranty.

If you can hear sounds and listen to music then the answer is yes. Dell wouldn't really sell a system without 1 from my knowledge, the sound cards they sell separately are just upgraded top quality ones rather than the standard 1s they come with.

It could be a compatibility issue or your soundcard is not upto scratch. ring dell and find out they'll b able to tell you if you can configure anything to work your cd.

Yes, but karaoke cd's are both data and music so you need the right type of player software.
Try Karaoke CDG video hoster software.

But thats no garentee that its compatible with your kareoke software.
