Yes 2 or 3 times... once when I went to answer the door bell I for got I had put the caller on the hold and merrily chatted with my neighbour...
another time when i rushed to see what was burning in the kitchen i forgot abt the caller .....
The third time I was late to catch a bus i rushed to work only to return home in the evening and obviously the caller was mad at me...

Hell yeah. One job I worked in had a phone system that would remind u that u had a call on hold. It would ring back. But not all of my jobs had something like that so yeah, I've put people on hold and forgotton about them.
What usually happens is they hang up after a while and ring back all angry "...and I was put on hold..." and this is where I say "Oh, I'm sorry about that, hold on one moment please." and put them back on hold!

No, never. I used to temp as a receptionist during summers when I was in college and I did a great job and never left people hanging on hold for too long. I checked back every minute to ask if they wanted to keep holding.

Yes. I do that at work sometimes. I get busy and forget they're on hold. Our phone system doesn't ring back if a call is on hold for awhile.

Yeah...when I used to have a lot of friends and they would like to call me at the same time...call waiting. I'd switch over to the new call and forget about the person on the other line.

yes, and in fact I've done worse than that. I fell asleep on the phone and was startled when I heard screaming in my ear. How embarassing.

Well, I used to love to talk on the phone before going to sleep - and once, I actually woke up to my friend saying: "Hey...are you there? Are you sleeping? Wake up!" Ok, I felt pretty stupid! What can you do?

Yes, I do it all the time. I also hang up on purpose and say my phone lost connection.
