OK... I have been on Bed Rest since 9 weeks for IC and am now reaching 34 weeks.

Prolly a silly question... but does everybody have a mucus plug?
I have IC and have been funneling since about 15 weeks.
So I am wonder if I just did I not get one?
I just recently started to Dialate last week... currently 1cm and 90% effaced.
So if I did have one I should of lost it by now right?

Does not having one effect the unborn baby at all?

Everyone has a mucous plug and it usually comes out later in the pregnancy when the cervix begins to thin and dilate. I'm sure you had one but sometimes women don't even notice when they lose theirs, I remember mine actually "popping" with my first baby but didn't notice it at all with the next 2 babies. When after going to the bathroom and when you wipe there is some mucus looking stuff on the toilet paper- that was probably your plug.
The mucous plug acts as a natural barrier to prevent germs from getting inside the uterus. But if you think you have lost it earlier it's still ok because the amniotic membrane acts as a barrier too.

All the women I have worked with (I'm a doula) who had IC during their pregnancy had quick labors- so be thankful for that. :)

Happy Birthing!

You will still have one. Im in the same situation as you and on best rest. My cervix has also been funneling and they caught it at around 25 weeks. You may never even notice if you lose your mucus plug. I have had 3 babys already and have never seen mucus plug.

Everyone has one yes. It's secreted on implantation to protect the growing fetus from infection. Upon dialation it breaks up and comes out. Most women don't notice it though until the very end. Sometimes it just hangs out until you're dialated until about 5cm. then comes out. Sometimes it breaks into small pieces and you don't even see it. Sometimes it comes out as one big clot. Everybody is different and ever pregnancy is different.

Did you have a cervical cerclage?
Your case is interesting. And i don't know how to answer this question. I would think that in your case, it's highly possible that you would have lost your mucous plug very early, when the funneling began.

good question. I just don't know. your doctor should.

yes every woman has one, but some women don't always know when they "lose" or pass it....i didn't know mines passed with my daughter or maybe i didn't notice, it can look different for different women, cause i also hear other women talk about how they saw it pass and how disgusting it was.. it really shouldn't have an affect on baby, its really just something that can be a sign of labor coming soon, but with babies, soon could be whenever they feel like coming....check with your doc, but I'm sure its no worry....btw congrats
