Most likely you just have a run of the mill contusion and bone bruising, which is most common in these situations. Ice it and try to keep it guarded from further injury. If it still hurts after a week or it keeps getting worse, then you should see a doctor for an X-ray. So who won the fight?

What part of your hand is swollen? Did it hurt at the time of the punch (and were you sober)? Did you cut it on your opponents teeth?

There are two things I would be concerned about here : A fracture of a metacarpal bone, called a boxers fracture, or an infection of a laceration. Human bite can cause very bad infections. Consider being seen by a doctor as you may need an x-ray, antibiotic, and/or tetanus shot.

I hope you didn't punch this bloke in the face or anything like that, because can you imagine if your hand is swollen, what the state of his face must be.

maybe a sprain or even a fracture...whatever it is - i hope it REALLY REALLY hurts - just like the person who received your fist is hurting! i also hope that when they are a little better - they press charges against you for assault - i certainly would...there is no excuse whatsoever for being violent and its people like you that can make this world an unpleasant place at times!!
