I have a 5 month old daughter and we are going on day trip tomorrow. It will be about and hour and half drive (one way) and we will be gone for about 9 to 10 hrs. How much should I pack (diapers, formula, bottles etc)? Just wanna know if there is a "rule of thumb" to go by. Thanks for the help in advance.

Always pack WAY more then you think you'll need. 2-3 extra out fits just in case she gets car sick, or spills something or leaks through her diaper. Take about a 1/2 pack of diapers. Of course you prolly wont use all of them but you have to be prepared. What if she gets diarreha unexpectedly? Unlickly, but possiable. Take a whole can of formula, just to be safe. I would only take 2-3 bottles cause you can keep a water bottle in the car with the squirt top to rinse them out. Always having more rather then not enough when it comes to baby is much much better. Hope this helps! Just wait till you take you first big car trip, its like your moving =) I have 2, 3 yrs and 9 months, and we drove from Tennessee to Arizona!!!! Talk about crazy!

You know babies have a way of surprising you with their excretions when you're out in public. My son and I had our first grocery shopping trip and I remember I swear it was the most poop I have ever seen come out of him!! I would pack at least 12 diapers maybe 15. You don't know if you will be able to rinse out the bottles or if she will pretend she's hungry and not finish a bottle so I will bring enough bottles and formula for 24 hours plus some extra bottled water just in case she needs something to suck on for a little while. My son is almost 5 months but when we go somewhere I am one of those people who pack a lot!! Also, don't forget the hand sanitizer and ziploc bags in case you can't get rid of a dirty diaper. Good luck!

I have three boys, and have traveled often because my husband was in the military. I always packed three tshirts, three bibs, dry can formula is best..because you can always make a bottle on the go. (i.e. pick up bottled water at gas station along the way, etc). two pair of socks/footies. Two comfortable one-piece pajamas, one outfit for number of days you'll be gone. But babies like to travel comfortable so comfy jammies are always a bonus. diapers, you can never have too many diapers. I also carried a wash cloth as well in a plastic baggie. Never know where you might need to clean up quickly. Happy travels!

Definitly take a couple change of outfits, you never know when they are going to spit up or soil through their diaper. Take about 10 diapers, you never know when something might come up you can't get back home, be prepared just in case. Take about 6 things of formula, if its already prepared, put an ice pack in the bag with them, so you don't spoil any. A think a travel size wipe container is enough, and take enough bibs, if she uses bibs, and take a pair of pjs just in case. I know how you feel, I went away on a day trip and over packed but I was happy to have done it as you never know when plans can change. And if she plays with toys, take a few to keep her busy.

I would pack three outfits, a small can of formula or put enough formula in a small container for at least 4 bottles (don't forget to include the scoop) and then bring 1-2 actual bottles along. I'd bring a handful of diapers and one of those travel wipes containers or a ziplock baggy full.

pack more than you'll think you need. especially diapers and formula. how much does she eat, drink, poop, or pee during a normal day? that should give you a clue. is it to a public place, or like a park? if suplies can be bought in an emergency, then it's up to you.

You can never pack enough --pack alittle bit more than what you use in a day--I always overpack with my 2year old....
