I had a really smelly garbage disposal. I used the cleaners you buy at the store...and the smell can back after a day or two. So then I used lemons, and only after a few hours the smell was back. Vinegar only gave off a strong odor of it's own, and baking soda wasn't strong enough. So finally I used lemon scented bleach. I poured 2 cups into the disposal and left it for 30 minutes before rinsing. It has been 2 weeks and the odor has not come back.

Citrus peelings work well. So does running a tray of ice cubes. They clean off the blades. There are products on the market that are designed to clean disposals. I have had mine for years and smell has never been something I couldn't get rid of. You can try pouring some baking soda in there and let it sit with a little water a while before you run it. Another trick is to take the splash guard off and scrub it clean. You'll be amazed at how dirty it is.

Try cutting a lemon into 4 sections and putting it into the disposal along with 2 cups of ice cubes. Turn on the disposal until it clears, running a small amount of water. Once done, then run water for several seconds. This has always worked for me. Also, clean the bottom of the rubber ring frequently. Use a good dish brush to that.

pour a cup of baking soda, then a cup of vinegar into the disposal. Run the hottest water your sink can make down the drain after you've let all the bubbling end.
If this doesn't work, try a throwing in a few cut up lemons while it's running.
Good luck, I know how awful smells can be with morning sickness.

Every day bacteria are having the best time of their microscopic lives in the pipes of your drain, which is where the odor is coming from. Get a can of foaming cleaner. You want something that will take some time to descend the drain. spray it in, and do not run the garbage disposal. Let the foam go down on it's own by gravity. The foam should be a bacteria killer, that is, it contains a chemical for this purpose. It might take a couple of times to do the job you want done. By the way, Best wishes for your baby.

My wife uses a regiment of lemon peels and egg shells down the disposal, every week of so, to prevent the build up of odors.
I, concerned about greese and fat buildups, like to run the disposal once a week, using hot water and squirting Dawn dish soap directly into the disposal. I also do this about once per week.
I think the combination of two habbits do our disposal alot of good.

Lemon (or any citrus smell you can handle) wedges or peels.
Fill an ice cube tray with white vinegar and freeze it. Put the vinegar cubes down the drain and turn on the disposal. Vinegar is a great odor absorber and the ice cubes will sharpen your blades at the same time.
Hope this helps! Good luck---

Pour in a cup of vinegar and then run the cold water for 2 to 3 minutes.
Here's an idea for you. Start a compost *bucket* of kitchen scraps. Take it out to the compost pile weekly or put the rotting stuff in/around the garden or flowers. I hardly use my disposal anymore!

Easy fix is straight beach will work safely pour in a 2 qt and let it sit for 10 minutes rinse and repeat. The best way to really get it clean is to remove the basket and clean it out.
Note: claening out the basket is a dirty job and it will really stink up the house something you need to take outside and wash out. Still use the bleach to clean it out. Hope this helps you.
