i think that's just a myth, just something fun to consider... with my son, everyone thought by the heartbeat that i was having a girl, but i wasn't....no matter what you go by (heartbeat, carrying low or high, string in front of the belly, what type of foods you're craving or whatever else is out there), there's still a 50/50 chance and you'll either get one or the other

Fetal heartbeat is really no help either. Heart tones may be heard as early as eight to ten weeks using Doppler technology. Until about 20 weeks, it is not unusual to have a fetal heartbeat in the 150 to 160 range. As the baby's heart develops and the neurological system matures, the count may fall to between 130 to 140. The normal range is 120 to 160. Some say that a fast heart rate is a girl, based on the fact that women's heart rates are faster than men's. But if this were the case for an unborn baby, we would all start out as girls and turn into boys!

Most people will say they dont believe this but i do...i have had 2 kids and one on the way and the heartbeat accurately let me know what gender i was having,it came out true for both,,my sister in law is pregnant and her babys heartbeat was in the higher 150's and i said oh its a girl, then we went to go look at the gender and sure enough was a girl...this has happened with numerous friends of mine as well. I know its an old wives tale, but there is some belief behind it..scientific studies showed no significant truth behind this theory but they say there is a 3% increase in the babys heartbeat when it is a girl...when i was pregnant with my last one my doctor even listened to the heartbeat and said it sounded like a boys heartbeat, and it sure was..she even believed in the tale...so,if your babys heartrate is above 145 its supposed to be a girl (but to be safe i would say above 150) and below is a boy....have fun with this woves tale,it just might come out true for you!! Good Luck!

It's an old wives tale, but it was true for me and my best friend. The myth is that a hearbeat that is faster 150 and up is a sign that it's a girl, and below 150 is a sign that it's a boy. My doctor says it really has to do with if the baby is sleeping versus being active when they listen.

There's a theory (aka:old wives tale) that says girls have a faster heart rate than boys while in the womb.
I'm sure there is anecdotal evidence that supports this. Both of my daughters had pretty fast heart rates- usually up in the 160's, my son's heart rate was in the low 150's.
But who's to say it's like that ALL the time for ALL babies?

They say a girl has a higher heart beat then a boy. My two boys heartbeats changed so much throughout gestation though that i can fully testify that this is just an old wives tale. example: This is baby #2 for me. Docs apointment thursday (38 weeks) his heart rate was approximately 153bpm and then the next day during his ultrasound his heart rate was 138bpm. (He was awake and active at the docs apointment and sleeping at the ultrasound) When he was about 28 weeks his heart rate was 144bpm according to his 3D ultrasound.
