Physically they will fit, but the connector for traditional parrallel IDE is a wider ribbon cable, whilst the SATA drive has much few data connections for serial transfer. A SATA drive will not FUNCTION in a slot cabled for a parrallel PATA drive.

the connections on the drive are different

is this for a mobile or a home PC?

If its a home PC and there are sata connectors then it should work. just screw in the drive and connect it using the sata cables..

you may have to get a converter lead for the power connexion though

the connections are different.

you can get adaptors but the drive will run as an IDE rather than full speed sata.

The drive will fit into the bay but the adaptor may make his difficult depending on its size.
