It seems that on every conservative talk show that I have listened to most "whites" feel or seem to feel threatened by multiculturalism. What is it about multiculturalism that bothers you so much? I have heard Rush say that it poses a threat to Traditional Values, Hannity has said that it is the "libs" trying to get back at us" and etc. etc. etc. I just cannot understand how learning about the diversity of this country can be so polarizing in "white" circles.

I just have a sneeky suspicion that it has something to do with 2050 (No racial majority in the U.S.) If we are a nation that prides itself on democracy and brotherhood, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THAT BOTHER ANYONE, unless you are racist.

(This is really a sincere question, I am not trying to bait an argument or start a racial war. But inquiring minds just want to know.)

I am white and an American. I love Multiculturalism. My hubby is from Sri Lanka and most of my friends are from other countries (Trinidad, Ghana, Congo, Jamaica, South Africa...). I think it's great to have has many different cultures in this country as long as they are all willing to be here on legal terms.

an open mind is crucial in breaking down barriers, especially on the racial and religious front. When we are raised in a certain way, we were coached to think "this is the only way" and that stereotyping by the media (magazines, music, propaganda and news papers) on racial differences reinforce this resentment on accepting multiculturalism.

This lack of unity among the people will overcome nations and individuals who do not respect one another cause internal strife. Consequently causing hundreds of years of war until the end of times.

Cheers

I am a white American and I am not threatened by multiculturalism at all--I think it does society good!! I do not see it as a threat to traditional values--multiculturalism should not bother anyone, America is a free country and people need to start being more open and accepting of others!!

I am not white nor American, but I feel you seem to generalise all whites into one category. I don't think all 'whites' think in one way.
But may be certain sections of society do, may be you could be more specific.

I believe that they're forgetting what this country is all about and what it was founded on. Ignorance and fear breed hate and misunderstanding.
