I would like to rephrase this, i would say: A dog is a man's best friend and foe. There was a girl who got savaged to death by one.

It doesn't make a different what kind of dog it was that savaged this girl. It was a dog. Period.

I guess if you were generalizing about all dogs that would be true. My black lab would never hurt anyone, but she can have a fierce bark when she is in protective mode. She is a very gentle creature. That is sad about the girl. I wonder what kind of dog it was, maybe that makes a difference.
