18) 2w - 3x - 8w

The only like terms to combine here are the w terms. All we have to do is add 2w and -8w as if they were 2 and -8. 2 + (-8) = -6, so the result of combining like terms should be

-6w - 3x

20)

(a^4)(b^2) * (ab^3)

To multiply these two numbers, all you have to do is add the powers. Note that in the second brackets, "a" doesn't have a power, but it's really to the power of 1. So we *really* have

(a^4)(b^2) * (a^1)(b^3)

Add the powers individually for the "a" terms and the b terms.

(a^5)(b^5)
