There's already lots of great sports coverage on News 24, so I can't really see that there would be the need for this.

This is not true. The BBC have dismissed rumours that they will be making a Sports channel to rival "Sky Sports".

They were planning to have one with NTL but then this plan is being scrapped already, but they might have some surprises in the pipeline with London being hosts to 2012 Olympics...
