I'm not talking about the way, way out there "I'll-die-for-this-dolphin" folks; I mean, just the regular person who wants clean air to breathe and clean water to drink (necessities of life btw--unless you're from Mars) seems to get blasted by neocons these days.

Oh, maybe that's it: Neocons are aliens???????

They tell us that the arsenic and mercury in the water is harmless, so then why are the Neocons importing their water?

Some people think that man-made carbon dioxide emissions haven't been proven to affect the climate. A lot more people think that than you would imagine, actually. Basically everything we do causes more CO2 emissions (driving, flying, flipping on the light unless you get solar or nuclear power, buying red meat). Conservatives, by definition, want as little government involvement as possible in general. For the government to start regulating CO2 output would mean a ton of regulations and lifestyle changes forced by the government. And to have the government telling them how to live their lives for something that isn't proven to them is about the ultimate wrong. Not saying I'm agreeing with this, but that's how some see it.

Because conservatives are (and in my mind, rightly so) not upset with the idea of environmental protection, but more at the idea of throwing billions into things like the Kyoto Accord which don't seem to do anything except allow developing countries to pollute more easily.

I am a member of Greenpeace and somewhat of a socialist, but I am sick of the whole "if you don't support this bill then you must hate the environment" line of thinking. It reminds me too much of the whole "if you don't support this bill, you must hate our soldiers in Iraq, or you must hate America" kind of partisan rhetoric.

Think about what you're supporting, regardless of the politics of the proposal. Good and poor environmental policies have been implemented by both conservatives and liberals, and the rest of us who don't quite fit.

Well as someone that owns about 5 acres of vaneer quality wood (read the stuff they make fine furnature out of) I pay taxes on land and have to ask permission to harvest that wood that could net me a tidy profit. If you won land and have minerl rights you have to get mining permits, and follow a ton of BS laws that have no bearing whatsoever on my neighbors. So in the end the green laws are just more and more government intrusion upon my rights as a property owner. And if you thnk Im just some whacko, Im a member of the surfriders, an environmental group that is all about clean water.

Because its a farce. The U.S. is not the only country that burns fossil fuels. This is a product that is used world wide and growing in use every day (aka China). Environmental protection is just another excuse for the libs to raise our taxes. Nice thought but come on. Your not going to stop the use of oil. Oil moves the world right now and will be in use until we use every last drop....period.

Good question.

They think that the right to pollute is in the constitution, and they're terrified that cleaning their children's environment would cost them their 300 dollar tax cut.

Neocons, as I understand them, are interested in protecting corporate earnings. Environmental protection upsets them as they believe it will reduce their profit margins.

Because the Real Goal of "environmental protection" is the shutting down, or down-sizing of factories.
Anyone who wants to work for a living fears these Environmental Wackos.
