Apples and Oranges my friend, you cannot compare them by clock speed or processor speed. A Mac and PC can be equally matched, have the same clock/ processor/ amount of ram, the Mac will be faster. It's the way the software (operating system and programs) and computer(hardware) works that counts. PC's just seem frustratingly slow compared to a Mac. Macintos(hardware and OS) just make better use memory, the graphical interface and file storage. PC windows and desktop look painted on, and when you click a link or press a button it seems like an eternity before anything happens, that's the best I can describe it. I would bet you could cut the speed of the Mac in half and it would still be faster. PC's seem way more memory hungry. Accept it.

There is no software that will speed up your pc. Every time you add software it slows your pc down! You just need to get into a regular housekeeping routine.
And keep your machine spyware free, it really slows it down. Theres a list of software on my 360 blog (click my picture and follow the link on my profile page).
You could do with at least 512 mb RAM, Windows XP uses 256 mb by itself!

- Uninstall any programs you no longer need, and delelte any old files. Back up others to cd or an external hard drive and delete them to free up space.
- Install Ccleaner and use the Issues tool then the Cleaner tool.

- Run Winpatrol and use it to stop all your programs loading on startup as they are all using memory; leave Windows and your security software

- Defragment your hard drive from Start - programs - accessories - system tools - disc defragmenter. Leave the machine while it runs. If the files are split it takes the drive longer to find them.

There are lots of ways to speed up a PC...you really don't give me much to go on, but a few tips/suggestions:
Free:
use the disk cleanup utility, scandisk, and defrag on a regular basis.
ditch unused/unessasary TSR's
delete cookies, temp files, and browser history/catche
low-cost:
*upgrade your memory* (you need AT LEAST 512 for SP2)
run a pest control program like EZ Pest Patrol
Use a firewall
use anti-virus software

Cleaning Your Computer (Windows OS)

To clean up your computer, do the following:

Click on START
Click on PROGRAMS
Click on the ACCESSORIES folder
Click on SYSTEM TOOLS
Click on DISK CLEANUP
This program will search out all the unneeded files on your computer. When it asks, place a check mark in each of the boxes and click OK. It will ask you if you're sure, click YES.

(For advanced users: Start > Run > %temp% > Select all > delete)

Now that you have cleaned your hard-drive of all the unnecessary files - you need to let the computer organize the information on the hard drive for best performance...

Click on START
Click on PROGRAMS
Click on the ACCESSORIES folder
Click on SYSTEM TOOLS
Click on DISK DEFRAGMENTER
Once the program has finished it will ask if you want to view a report. You do NOT need to view this. Now reboot your computer.

AOL 9.0: Go to SETTINGS on the toolbar > INTERNET (WEB) OPTIONS
Click on the CLEAR MY FOOTPRINTS tab, the the CLEAR MY FOOTPRINTS button.

This process is something you should consider doing at least once a month.
