Hi, I've recently applied for a new rental apartment, and they said they would need to check my credit, and rental history of 2 years. Okay, so I applied thinking everything would be fine, I've been living at the same place for 5 years now. But then they called me, saying that my application was declined because I had 2 late payments back in 2002. I thought they only cared for the last 2 years. Now am I not gonna be able to apply anywhere else??

so ask them why you were denied since it was so long since you had late payments and tell them the reason you were late.

instead of them considering the only two times u were late, they should really be considering the fact that u were a tenate at the same residents for five years and for those five years u always paid on time but for the only 2 times u were late in 2002 but obviously u came back in track and with the whole 4 years later u were in good standing payment history.., what idiots they r everyone goes through a little rough patch in their life, to me ur situation overall is in good standing and any landlord should be happy to have u as a tenate!

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Unfortunately, tt is okay for your present landlord to give information about their entire relationship with you when asked to give the credit reference. Next time, tell the prospective landlord ahead of time that there are a couple minor ancient issues. It may have been the surprise of learning and not the information itself that caused the rejection.

Good luck!
