The Magic Treehouse books and their accompanying research guides (Mary Pope Osborne) are excellent. The regular series is about a brother and sister, Jack and Annie, who discover a magic treehouse that takes them to places around the world, both in our time and in the past. Each book combines information about the location and time with an exciting story. The research guides are nonfiction books that go along with the series. For example, "Ancient Greece" goes along with "Hour of the Olympics". These books develop context and background for students in a clear and interesting way.

Your daughter might also like the American Girl series. These are historical fiction books that focus on different time periods. The books are well-written and include lots of "helps" to explain the historical context.

For math and geometry, Marilyn Burns has written several books that develop mathematical concepts in a fun way. Try the "I Hate Mathematics" book...it has neat stories, puzzles, and tricks.

I suggest the Magic Treehouse books. They are historically educational and fun. The Boxcar Children are good too. The Animorphs are interesting, but could be thought gross. Math Curse is mathmatical and good. Several others are Stellaluna, It's an Ant's Life, and the Magic School Bus series.

Early morning kids shows sometimes have book report segments where kids report on books that they have read. Try googling books for kids and see what comes up, I am sure that there are many, many in the local library that the librarians can help you with as well. You are doing the right thing by getting your daughter interested in books so take her to the library and get her signed up. As she grows older both you and she can look forward to Saturday morning visits to the library to store up on lots of books to last throughout the week. Happy reading.
