i have tried cutting the conifers out back but i can never get them quite right.

Many landscaping services/tree trimming services could do this.
Do not know where you are located, so cannot supply any names.

Be careful when trimming some conifers. If you totally trim off the limbs (ie. remove all the branches with needles on them), the tree may die - the American Southern Pine is an example.

look in your phone book or call a local nursery.do get a professional ! get more than 1bid.a good pro. will not charge you and may give you some good advice.look up your conifers on the web,do a little home work so they can not feed you a line of bull.

I have the same problem. My plan is to cut my lovely bushes right to the ground and see what happens. My house was sold approx. 50 years ago, and the people who moved in must have had no friggin idea of what they were. My little bushes are probably 16 feet tall. They are lovely up top, but gross underneath. as far as I know, from years of trimming my grandparents, you work on the stump first.
