You will have a wonderful time but I won't sugar coat it, there may be sharks, I went snorkeling when I was there ( I was in Nassau) and there was a place the dive master took us that was full of sharks. Now they go over guidelines on what to do if approached by a shark and also most of the sharks that are in areas frequented by tourists (such as dive sites) are accustomed to being around humans. If you plan on snorkeling around the beach, etc not with a group, you should have someone with you at all times and be aware of your surroundings. Try not to wander off into areas where humans do not normally go. I have included some links on shark attacks, statistics, the dive company I used and how to avoid attacks... hope I was of some help !!

No worries, most likely you would be assisted by a professional. And even if you spot a shark most likely it's a nurse shark, which poses no threat to you.

As far as I know the Abaco's haven’t had a history of sharks bite's in the past, "home sweet home".

It's extremely unlikely that you would get bitten by a shark. I have been snorkeling in the Bahamas, and if you stay near the beach in shallower waters, there shouldn't be any sharks. Here's an article with some helpful tips for new snorkelers:

Abaco is a lovely island and the people was wonderful there. As far as sharks go I doubt if you will even see any. Relax and enjoy the snorkeling you will see some amazing sights none of which will harm you.
