Odds are you do have CD-RW, but to be 100% sure the easiest way would be to look at the receipt you got from Dell. I've bought lots of Dells, I know that they provide an itemized listing of what is included in the system attached to the outside of the shipping box. They also provide it on the on-line receipt you got, assuming you bought it online.
To save a file to cd, you must first have the blank writeable cds. You can buy these at Staples, Walgreens, Walmart, OfficeMax etc....
Put the CD in the drive.
Open my computer, double click on the CD drive, a windows explorer window will open (with nothing in it).
Go to your project application. Pull down "file" pick "save as", then choose the CD for the destination drive in the "save in" pull down at the top of the screen. You should hear the CD drive start to spin as soon as you do this. Click save.
Go back to the my computer window you opened earlier. On the left side of the window it says "write these files to CD", click on that.
That's it.

Do the following to Identify what type of drive you have
Start-->My Computer-->Right click Drive--> Properties
If its a cd Burner it will have the formats that it can burn. If you only have 1 cd drive and its a new computer 99% its going to be a burner otherwise. You'll need to buy one at tigerdirect.com or newegg.com any cd burner you can even get a combo for cd/dvd for 50 bux or less.
Installation is as simple as opening up the computer pop out the little black cover. Slip in the drive connect it to the power supply and to your mother board.
Before buying make sure you check if you have extra IDE ports or SATA depending on the board.

okay, you should have a cd-rw in your new puter, besides istimpyo's advice, you can, if you still have it, check the box, as well as look at the front of the cd drive.. most of them say if they are rw's...
second, how to use? wellll, that's when you're going to want to read the help that comes with whatever program came installed on your puter... mine has RecordNow, as well as Windows Media Player 11, and they are easy to use, although, I have found RecordNow to be easier than WMP 11..

Right click my computer and go to properties, hardware tab, device manager. In device manager go to cdrom drive and click the + sign next to it, it will have what kind of drive you have whether its cdrw/dvdrom or cdrw/cdrom. If you stick a blank cd in a window wil come up asking you what you want to do. Pick open folder to drag files to or something like that and you can drag the files in that folder or just drag them in using windows explorer/my computer, and then click the burn link
