It doesn't drop out it is wafted along the tubes from the ovaries by the corrugated insides of the falopian tubes. If it is going to be impregnated by a sperm it will happen in the tube and as the egg devides and splits it is spinning constantly towards the womb. It will float down within days of being released into the lining of the womb an embed itself there if it is to be a baby.

Approximately (exactly ?) 16 days after first day that period cycle began. At that 16th day...there is about a 36 window of time that the egg can be fertilized. That ovulation time is accompanied with a change of the consistency of the cervical mucus. The cervical mucus during that time becomes a bit more 'thick" type.
