a great actor can do the serious stuff , the comedy and perform different roles ( ie character actor ) , that narrows the field down quite a bit .........................my pick of the best would be .....alec guiness, cary grant ,and james stewart , as for Chaplin he was inventive but his early films were slightly quicker speed which creates a comic effect ( a la benny hill ) actors who play the same person/role are not great just good ( adam sandler etc )

Oh, I think there are many!!! Tom Hanks, for one!! He's a Fabulous Actor, who'll do anything to get his psychy prepared for his roles!! Grow a beard, gain weight, you name it, he does it, for his role's!!! Then there's Sean Penn, who's also Fab! And I just love Robert Denero! Robert Redford, in "All the President's Men!" Robin Williams is quite the Actor/Comedian!! I love Hugh Grant! For female's: Julia Robert's, Merryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Cher, J-Lo, Demi Moore, Whoopie Goldberg, Angelina Jolie!!! Angelina Jolie, can act!! I just saw a movie with her, where she plays this psychotic woman back in the "Ballroom Dress" ara, with Antonio Banderas, and what an Excellent movie!!! Drew Barrymore, is a Great Actress!! George Clooney, Nickolas Cage, Nick Nolte!!! I could go on & on, but I cant......There's just too many to name, I cant just settle on one, hun! Charlie Chaplin, was a great Panamimer!! Yes, indeed he was! smile!!!
