There are several methods of teaching a child with autism. All kids have a different learning style. You know your child so look at these websites with a grain of salt. You could be easily overwhelmed.

Also, check your local school district. They might have classrooms that would be beneficial for you to observe. Again...rely on you community resources. See what is in your community....especially support groups. Good luck to you and your soon! He's lucky to have such a proactive parent.

As a person who works professionally with kids with autism, I would suggest these websites which summarize the different techniques often used in the education of kids with autism:
http://www.autismspeaks.org/whattodo/index.php
http://www.autismeducation.net/interventions.htm
You might also consider buying the books "Overcoming autism: Finding the answers, strategies, and hope that can transform a child's life" and "Special children, challenged parents".
But honestly, your best resource for learning how to teach your child is your child's teacher at school. Your child's teacher is trained in all the latest techniques in autism education (TEACCH, ABA, RDI, DIR, etc) and knows your child very well and should be able to give you tips specific to your child.

Buy the book called "You're going to love this kid" by Kluth. It is one of the best I have read about teaching and working with children with autism.

If he is high functioning, I love the TEACCH method. Plenty of music therapy is also beneficial. Use picture books, and SING the words instead of reading them. (This is a great way to teach reading through memorization too.)
