I'm surprised a lot of people here don't think Gordon Brown's at least partly to blame. I have heard recently that he plundered the pensions fund.

Even Taxgrabber Brown surely doesn't think we are stupid enough to think that taking £5 Billion a year for the last ten years from our pension funds makes them work better does he?
This man has been death and disaster to the countries finances - just like every Labour clown before him - all he understands is 'Tax and spend' - and most of it is utterly wasted.

Young people can't afford to put money aside for a pension and the government worries it won't be able to afford to pay everyone the state pension. No, it's not Gordon Brown's fault, it's been a growing problem for years and no politicians has been bothered to face up to it - well, it's not very sexy is it . . .

Gordon Brown isn't responsible, its the fault of many more people living longer after they retire, and now less people earning money and paying national insurance contributions. Those reaching retirement age now are those born in the baby boom just after the war. However the government do need money coming in to pay it out, so reducing the amount being paid out, by amking people wait longer seems to be the answer as we are continuing to develop treatments that mean people are going to live longer and longer.

i seem to remember G. Brown having a shortfall in the amount of money needed for the military so he dipped in to the pension fund with the aim of reclaiming this from individuals by raising NI contributions, but this didn't work.

My point is that there are not enough young people coming into the workforce to pay for the ageing population in the UK (people living longer, less babies being born).
