Accounting:
Accounting is a difficult term to define. However, it is formally defined by the American Accounting Association as “The classification and recording of monetary transactions, the presentation and interpretation of the results of those transactions in order to assess performance over a period and the financial position at a given date, and the monetary projection of future activities arising from alternative planned courses of action”. Using this definition, accounting can be seen to be about the identification and recording of business transactions as a way of assisting the management and planning of a business.

Accounting is a subfield of business, but if you are at a school that offers both as a major, the accounting major is probably intended to prepare you to pass the CPA exam. At the business school where I teach, there is a minor in business and a minor in accounting, and the accounting major is what I said above- a program to prepare undergraduates to become CPAs after college.
You will get a broader range of courses and knowledge when you study business, taking intro classes in management, finance, accounting, marketing, etc. but studying just accounting will give you greater depth of knowledge in a specific area.

Accounting is a subfield of business. Your question is equivalent to asking the difference between studying Chemistry and Science.
Other subfields of Business include Finance, Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Marketing and Operations Research.

Finance is a general term to describe anything to do with money and accounting is the term used to describe financial records that show, for example, the sales and receipts of a business and the business expenditure. I suppose a good way of putting it would be, accounts are a financial record.

Big difference. Accounting is a specific and exacting science in the general world of business. It's a knack or developed skill. I'm a good businessman with a general understanding of accounting, but can not handle the details of accounting. For me accounting is torture, for others it's a delight.
