The Swissotel is right by the Navy Pier and walking distance to all. Ask for view of Navy Pier, unbelievable view. Plus a pool on the upper floor w/ jacuzzi and great views as you swim. Check for good deals on travelzoo.com or their website; swissotel.com.
When I stayed I paid about $140, but I recently saw a $99 rate somewhere. It's a great hotel. Also the Affina for $85.

the Hancock bldg is about a mile north of Navy Pier, Sears Tower is two miles SW from the Hancock, there's gotta be thousands of hotels, so depending upon what you're looking for, addresses with three digits or less would be closest to the city. The Palmer House is very beautiful. Stop in the Cultural Center at 77 E Randolph, in the visitors center there is tons of brochures, coupons, free maps, lots of information so that you can do what you prefer
