I find that either Aspen wood chips (that is what I use) or what is called a dust free litter that you can pick up at any Pet Store are great for guinea or any small animal. I wouldn't use pine or any wood chips with a fragrance to it, they are dangerous to a guinea pig and can cause upper respiratory problems. Don't use paper either as they like to chew on it and paper contains inks and such in it that are poisonous to a guinea pig. Even plain white paper is dangerous to a Guinea Pig's health.

I think wood shaving or any other wood is not the best. Some guinea can be very allergic(especially mine).I use CAREFRESH. It locks in odor and does not smell much. You should try talking to your vet on your next visit for the right bedding for your guinea pig. Hope I gave you enough information.

Wood shavings work the best, if u ask at the petstore, they will try to sell you the moist expensive bedding they have, but I have had guinea pigs for a long time, and I always use wood shavings, also you can mix alfalfa grass in it, they eat that.....

I use pine wood chips. Try not to use cedar. Not too good for piggies, in my opinion. Whatever you use, just make sure you are changing bedding every day so your piggie has a clean home.

I line my daughters guinea pig cage with a layer of shavings and then a layer of newspaper and some more shavings. The newspaper absorbs very well. I have found that regualr shavings do not absorb very well and thus start to stink after awhile. The newspaper absorbs urine and water and holds it and keeps it from absorbing into the shavings. They do make a bed litter that is made of newspaper but it is very expensive to buy. I find it easier to collect the newspaper from family and to save your own.

On top of a bed of newspapers I use regular typing or computer paper run through a shredder in about 1/4" strips. It's economical and my pig seems to be very happy with it. It probably makes no difference to her but I use different color paper for variety or for holidays.

Although too expensive, that greyish paperish cardboardish stuff they sell for gp's is the best.
I personally got end rolls of newspaper paper from the local newspaper office. They give it away. I shred it myself and put in in the cage. The gp would tear it up and drag it into her igloo. She loved it.

I use shredded newspapers. If you do use wood shavings be careful what kind you use; some kinds of wood shavings can cause respiratory problems.

Wood Chips is what I use. Nothing too fancy, but it works good.
Newspaper is also another cheap option that works well.
