I understand the ending and what's happening with Barbosa and the crew, what I don't get is what Elizabeth did.... why did she handcuff him to the ship support? She basically killed him by doing that, and I couldnt really make out what they were saying when they kissed. It was really confusing... can someone break it down for me?

Elizabeth handcuffed capt. jack to the ship because she felt it needed to be done in order for the rest of the crew (including herself and Will) to be spared from the Kraken.
and capt. jack doesn't die, he just gets eaten...but since it's capt. jack, we know he doesnt die! he's too keen for that! ;) in a way, i think its also a way for her to let go of her almost sort of lust for him. like a way to set herself free of him.
okk here's what they say:
(starting at before she kisses him)
elizabeth: thank you jack
jack: we're not free yet though
elizabeth: you came back. *pause* i always knew you were a good man.
*she kisses him and cuffs him to the ship* and Will sees it
elizabeth: its after you not the ship. it's not us. this is the only way, don't you see? *leans in to kiss again, but pulls away* i'm not sorry.
jack: *smiles* Pirate.

end of that!

hope i could help! ;)

(1) Elizabeth kisses Jack as a distraction so she can shackle him to the ship to save Will and the others. Will is love of her life. She's loved him since childhood, practically since she first set eyes on him. Regardless of whatever attraction she might feel for Jack, he goal has always been to save Will.

(2) She fulfills Jack's prophecy that "you will come over to my side" and in fact she does. He loves being proved right and is downright proud of her when he utters that one word that says so very much, "pirate".

(3) We don't really know that Jack would have left with the rest of them anyway. He was hanging around to say goodbye to the Pearl. He may have stayed behind. He'd already fulfilled Elizabeth's prophecy and "done something brave" by coming back.

As for dialogue, she says, "You came back. I always knew you were a good man." Then after she kisses and shackles him. "It's after you, not the ship, it's not us. This is the only way, don't you see? I'm not sorry."

The puzzling ending ability that there'll be a sequel to this blockbuster ($3 hundred million, I pay attention). A unresolved ending continually ability that all and sundry hopes the 1st movie will grow to be a "franchise" and that they can enlarge the plot for, oh say, 4 extra video clips over six years and surely make a killing.

On Isla Cruces, Jack, Norrington, and Elizabeth find the Dead Man's Chest. Will, who has escaped the Dutchman with help from his father, Bootstrap Bill, arrives with the key. Will wants to stab the heart to free his father, but a three-way duel erupts between Jack, Norrington, and Will, each claiming it for himself. When they are attacked by Dutchman sailors, Norrington manages to escape with the heart and the Letter of Marque. Jones’ crewmen retrieve the chest, unaware it is empty.

Jack Sparrow battles the Kraken. The Flying Dutchman pursues the Black Pearl, but with the wind behind them, the Pearl outruns her. Jones ends the pursuit and instead summons the Kraken. In a moment of cowardice, Jack abandons the ship in a longboat while they're under attack, but unable to desert his crew, he returns in time to save them. He gives the order to abandon ship before the Kraken returns for its final assualt. ‎Realizing the Kraken is hunting Sparrow, a deceptive Elizabeth passionately kisses him while handcuffing him to the mast. Racked with guilt over her deceit, she tells the others Jack chose to remain behind, unaware Will witnessed what happened. Jack frees himself and charges the Kraken, but the colossal beast drags him and the Pearl to a watery grave. Watching from his ship, Davy Jones declares their debt settled, but he becomes enraged when he discovers the Dead Man's Chest is empty. Arriving in Port Royal, Norrington presents the heart and the Letter to Lord Beckett in a bid to regain his career. Cutler Beckett now controls the seas.

The grieving crew seeks refuge with Tia Dalma. Consoling them, she asks if they would sail to the World's End to return Jack and the Black Pearl. When they agree, she says they will need a captain who knows those waters. Incredibly, the formerly dead Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) descends the stairs, eating an apple and demanding to know about his ship.

Davey Jones had the Kraken attacking Capt. Sparrow, not necessarily everyone else on that ship, so if she kept him on the ship the rest of the crew could get away safely. i don't remember what they were saying but it was generally a continuation of their flirting earlier and not too important. if you have a DVD just turn on the english subtitles to see what they said.

She tied him to the pole because the kraken was after Jack ,so if it got Jack,it wouldn't come after others. She handcuffed him so that he wouldn't run.

The lines they were saying were:

Elizabeth Swann: [chains him to the ship] It's after you, not the ship... It's not us. This is the only way, don't you see?
[leans in as if to kiss him, then pulls away]
Elizabeth Swann: I'm not sorry.
Jack Sparrow: [smiles sorrowfully] Pirate.

Hope this answers your question :-)

Dumbo's you all need a mind for it. Phew! its that a captain should be in the ship until his or her death. A Captain is supposed to be responsible, brave and daring. It is a rule that captain is supposed to be in the ship in any circumstances until his or her death and thats why Elizabeth chained him.

She handcuffed him to the ship support to save herself - correctly understanding that the Kraken was after him, not the rest. She did not trust him to honorably sacrifice himself so that they could escape, but he did just that.

I would have to see it again to translate what they said when they kissed, but I seem to recall she was trying to justify her actions to herself - but then felt horribly guilty for causing, what she thought at that time, his death.
