The devotion of a man who refuses to give up on a woman he swore his life to - day after hopeless day - it touches people.
It's the same reason Nancy Reagan touched so many people's hearts when she looked after the former president instead of putting him in a nursing home. People with Alzheimer's can be violently forgetful and downright mean. Sometimes they're difficult to love.
That kind of devotion takes a fortitute and commitment that much of the world, this instant-gratification throw-away world, lacks.

It was the enduring love that spanned time. It chronicled their ups and downs and ended in successful relationship. Their love endured age and infirmity. The love, loyalty, and dedication given to the wife was what the vows "For better or worse,...sickness and in health...til death do us part..." were intended to mean.
Surf the net and there are very few examples of that sort of deep and abiding love.
Most movies today do not tell this story of the ever after. They tell you the story of 2 people who find mutual attraction and when the heat of passion subsides they abandon ship to find it elsewhere.
Never growing in their relationship they give up far too soon and carry with them the same problems to each new relationship because they never learn how to cope past the "adrenaline" part of the romance.
Try going into the "Marriage & Divorce" category and the truth of these words will bear out.

if you're into sappy romance stories, this is a must-see!!! The Notebook is based on a book by the same name by Nicholas Sparks. Two lovers fall in love during one summer and are separated for more than 10 years or so. But they meet again...and it just goes on from there. It's a great love story, one of my favourites actually. It's about true love, you know, the unselfish, pure kind (which makes you think it's all fantasy, nonsensical and totally unrealistic, but its worth a watch trust me)The book is way better, though. Try to get a hold of it.

It's an amazing love story. I mean who wouldn't want to find the love of their life at a young age and grow old together with that person and die in their arms. Is there any better way to leave this earth then old and in the arms of your love?

Brownie just said it best -
She found the love of her life as a young girl.
THey married, raised a family, and grew old together.
He loved her till the end - even though she often didn't remember him.
It an amazing story of a love you rarely see anymore - esp. in the younger generation.
