I was just wondering why some people simply excel in sports or are good at even new sports and why some (read:me) simply are bad at it??? (almost unfair if you ask me! :D)

Some people are born with the right body type, endurance levels, and general playing ability. Though hardwork and perserverance are two of the most important qualities in playing a sport, if you have poor motor skills, and poor coordination, then most likely, you would not be good in sports. There has to be a certain level of nartul born talent. This is not to say that working hard will not get you to that level, it will be just twice as hard for you.

Good genes are indispensible, but even the professionals need to train constantly to stay near the top. If you have long arms and legs, you will never be a champion weight lifter, but someone 170 cm tall can be much better at throwing baskets than someone 200 cm tall

practice every day and running helps. When i played football i ran every day, everyday till i passed out. as a kid i played indoor soccer. naturally i love sports but to be good at them i had to run. when coaches mean practice hard they mean at home and on the field. yes heart goes a long way but to strive for what you want and the drive to get there will get you farther than the heart. Those that seem "naturally born talent" have driven for what they wanted either playing basketball or golf or football. they practiced and they knew what they had to do to achieve their goal.
