It is simply the nutrition that is meant for the baby if you get pregnant.
If you don't get pregnant the blood flows out and and makes room for a fresh supply.

The menstrual cycle is the series of changes a woman's body goes through to prepare for a possible pregnancy. About once a month, the uterus grows a new, thickened lining (endometrium) so that it is ready to receive a fertilized egg. When there is no fertilized egg to start a pregnancy, the uterus then sheds its lining. This is the monthly menstrual bleeding (also called menstrual period) that women have from their early teen years until menopause, around age 50.

When a woman has her period, she is menstruating. The menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from the inside of the uterus (womb). It flows from the uterus through the small opening in the cervix, and passes out of the body through the vagina. Most menstrual periods last from three to five days.
Sweety ... dont deprive your mother of this responsibility ... ask her and search this site with her because theres so much more you need to know as well ... like WHY do you get your period.

Okay, lets be helpful, you should ask your mom!! But when girls start to grow up they get a period every month which involves a small amount of bleeding from their private parts, this allows them the ability to have a baby, when they are mature and ready to do so. It is not painful and it happens to all women.
