If you want to play a game like wow or swg, then i assume you are new to the game. Simply, because you paired wow with swg.
I cannot abide SWG, it looks ugly, its bland, difficult to get into, theres hardly any community and if you do meet someone in game they are so anti-sociol you'd mistake them for an NPC (non-player character)...even when they are spamming their wares in cities.
If you want the number one MMO experience at the moment, then it has to be WoW. The game is polished, easy to get into, rich in history and things to do and the community is sooo alive with 8 million people any questions you need answered will get answered.
Blizzard, who make WoW, also have more time for the game and its community. SOE are notoriously difficult to get ahold of, thats if you can navigate the red-tape.
Just be aware that you will be required to pay a monthly fee both games, though each do offer 10-30 day trials.

Depending on what and how you like to play then I would suggest looking into each one and see how you find it.
Games to look out for in terms of player quants would be World of War Craft, Ever Quest 2 & Eve on line.
All have a monthly fee and all very well done. plus trials to be used.

The greatest on line game has got to be counterstrike,
it is easy to play and never gets old.
