There are probably more similarities than differences. Both are members of the family Equidae (horses) and descended from the same ancestor which crossed from North America and then spread throughout Asia where it diverged into horses, Asiatic asses, African asses (from which domestic donkeys descended) and finally zebras. There are 3 species of zebra - plains, mountain and Grevys. The first two are pretty similar to horses in most respects. They live in herds in which the males defend the females. They are adapted to living on grasslands and are able to get energy from the toughest of grasses. Obviously zebras live in tropical and sub-tropical grasslands whereas horses originally lived on the plains of Europe. The African asses and Grevy's zebra are adapted to desert life and individuals defend territories rather than living in herds. Asiatic asses are somewhere between the two living in herds in semi-desert.
Obviously zebras are the stripiest of all equines, but some stripes occur in all of them. An ancient breed such as the highland pony or the now wild Przewalski's horse often has stripes on its legs called eel stripes and a Somali wild *** has really stripy legs like a zebra.
Unlike horses, zebras have a reputation of being very aggressive and are supposedly impossible to domesticate. Sadly, the one zebra that was easily tamed and might have been domesticated, called the quagga, was repaid for its trust in humans by being exterminated. The last one died in the early 20th century before conservation had even been dreamed of.
Other aspects of their biology, length of gestation (pregancy) build etc. are very similar (although obviously domestic animals are a lot more variable than wild ones). All crosses between equids that have been tried have produced viable offspring, although they are generally sterile, this demonstrates that they are closely related.
