Well your service was good enough for 11 yrs. I would just leave it off the application. You can put on the application that you worked there for 11 yrs. Yes to if they ask if they can contact your previous employer. (as they cannot tell anything about why you were fired, they dont give out any of that information...they just verify that you had worked there and length of time there). At the interview for the new job, when they ask your reason for leaving...You can simply state I loved the job, but the management wasnt professional and I felt that it was time for me to broaden my horizons, possibly promote, within a different vendor company or new carreer. Check the status of other employees length of time with vendors, sometimes the statistics show the average length of time within a certain field. I am sure it wont be 11 yrs. Tell the new employer that you were just ready to move on and upward in a secure, dependable, professional company. Dont elaborate on the word....fire , or the rudeness of the previous company. Elaborate more on time to move on, and how much you enjoyed the job. Good luck!

OK, I wouldn't tell them that. I also wouldn't put that manager down as a reference.
Other than that, you don't really need to say much. In today's economy, long-time employees get laid off all the time. Basically you could say that you employer's needs changed and you're services were no longer required. Or you could just say you were downsized.
Now, here's a little encouragement. In April 2002, 2 weeks after our first child was born, my husband was fired from a job he held for 14 years. He had a new job by Memorial Day (comparable to the old one). Since then he's been breathing multiple sighs of relief as his old employer goes through multiple rounds of downsizing.
Good luck.

You have to just tell the truth. They are apt to aontact your previous employer anyhow and find out. If you have told the truth up front along with NICELY telling your side of things at least the bare facts, then they will more than likeyl take the honesty into consideration. Plus that you worked there for so long says that you are reliable.

First and foremost make sure that no where on the application you give information on how to contact your former manager.
Otherwise, spin it by saying that after 11 years you felt you had reached a point where you needed to move on because _____. (The reason you give should be related to whatever the job you are applying for can give you.)
For example, you wanted to take on more responsibility with less supervision.

Was there a change of management at your last job... or was that manager the one since the beginning? Mention "constant harassment by uninspiring and unprofessional manager".... or something like that.

The amount of time you worked is the key. Explain that you had this job for a long time but a new manager made it impossible to continue.

You state that "After 11 years service I felt that my career had stalled and chose to look for better opportunities to develop myself. "
