Is compromise a betrayal of your political belief, or is it necessary to find the middle ground to advance society? Should you be unyielding in your objectives or willing to accept a reasonable counter measure?

Compromise is a double edged sword, but politics is about compromise in general. The honest fact is that no one has all the answers and not every solution is correct for every person. This is the prime reason why we have representative republic rather than a true democracy, because it is a system which allows for multiple views to be considered with built in protections for the minority, rather than all being subjugated to the will of the majority. I do believe that compromise is necessary in most instances to satisfy the needs of the many. However I also believe that there are some issues on which you should never compromise if you have strong principles. The trick is determining where compromise is good and where it is destructive. I guess this is why I am an independent now more than ever. There are just too many people who are willing to follow the overall agenda of a political party these days even when some parts of the agenda are dangerous. I should say though that I don't like the word compromise, I prefer cooperation because it denotes a more civilized and altruistic intent.

pretender59321 gives a great example of following a political party to the point of destruction. All Republicans are bad and only Democrats are correct. Obviously with that mindset there is no room for compromise at all. I do find it amusing that his examples of societal destructions were both carried out by Democrats.

If you are a Republican yes. If you are a democrat no. The reason is that Democrats will take a little now and a little more later and continue this policy until they have accomplished their goal. Republicans betrayed this country over the last six years and did nothing to reverse the Great Society (Lyndon Johnson) or the "Raw Deal" (FDR) it was a pity they squandered the opportunity to make this country great again!

I could answer this better if you gave an example. For the most part, I will not compromise my political beliefs unless I feel convinced enough.

We as a country, need less politics, less of the party's. And more of whats right and proper.

If a compromise is a faster way to do whats right ,go for it.

Compromise is dependent on the situation. Automatic compromise is worthless. Sometimes it is necessary to stand your ground.

"All government, indeed, every human benefit and enjoyment, every virtue and every prudent act, is founded on compromise and barter."
