My daugther's recent ex-boyfriend, ran up a £300 bill, its his phone, but its registered in her name, and she pays the bills.
She managed to cancel the phone after she got the bill.
He said he did it for spite.
Has she any recourse to recover the money

OUCH! First of all, if it's registered in HER name and SHE pays the bills, then it's HER phone. Legally, she is responsible for the bill. I have seen this situation on TV shows like "The People's Court". Judge Judy and Judge Milian would definately make this loser pay if she can produce documents like phone records and bills that shows the phone numbers he called that made the bill so high. Fortunately, those kind of records are easy to retrieve!
She could take him to a local small claims court--- but I'd say why pass up the opportunity to show him LOSING the case on national TV?

Not from the phone company. She can take her ex bf to court but that may cost more than the bill. Hopefully, she has learned a hard lesson. One such lesson is -- Never financially support another adult out side of marriage. I hope other lessons are not as expensive.

marginally at best -- she should call the phone company and make payment arrangements if she can't pay it. she should be extremely polite and if she gets someone that can't help her than politely request a superior that can. politeness is really the key. unless he has an account the balance could be tranferred over to then it is her responsibility. oddly enough it usually works the other way with a guy getting a phone and a girl running up the charges.
