Could you give us an idea of the reason why you got fired? I would approach this differently depending on which reason I got fired. Please post an update for us here. I will respond better then.
For the moment though... let's take for instance, a situation where I got angry with a co-worker and slammed the door on the way out, then got fired. I would probably list on the application "fired" and then list as the reason "conflict with co-worker." You can explain it in greater detail when you get called in for an interview... and explain then, how you learned a lot from this experience... you learned not to slam doors at work... you learned to have more patience and tolerance with co-workers... you learned to control your temper at work and to report problems to your boss if you are unable to resolve them easily.
At any rate, it is important to be very honest with a potential employer about getting fired, because many of them will call the previous employers for a reference. I was formerly responsible for hiring and firing people for a department of a large corporation. I would not turn an applicant away just for getting fired from a previous job. But I would turn them away (or fire them) if I found out that they had lied on their application.
It is not a crime to get fired and learn from a mistake you made. It can seem more serious when people lie. (I have lied before, so I am not judging you if you lie. But having been an employer now, I know the value of honesty on job applications! It can work to your BENEFIT.)
And by the way, many employers nowadays will run a background check on every applicant. I know of some companies who do this -- which means, if you leave off a previous employer who took out federal and state taxes on you... your background check will not match what you listed on your application... and the company will not even consider you for employment at all. (You can call anonymously from a pay phone, and ask the manager of the company where you are applying, if they run a full background check which shows former employers.)
All my best to you in your job search. God bless you.

I think you need to sort this out.
Case 1.) Honesty and integrity is compromised
Some employers with incompetent management in power can use various tactics to cover up. In this case, you need to speak out. I know it will have some negative affect on your next interview. But this also is a good moral test for employers.
Case 2.) Incompetent to perform a job duty
Just mention the physical conditions (illness etc) prevent you from performing certain duties and you would like to quit.
Regardless, you need to start a company with your own. Find something that can be used for generating revenue for business. Make $millions and walk away from these corporate nonsenses. Self reliance is the ultimate goal for one to reach your financial freedom. Life is short and you need to take care of yourself and your family first.
Best luck.

I'll buck the system here. I say list it. Honesty is the best policy. Don't use the word fired though. Use something like "Terminated for cause" or something like that. Be prepared to explain it but don't try to hide it. Everybody has a bad day and maybe you just had a bad day at work that day. Let them know that (or whatever the reason was) and maybe they will appreciate your honesty.

Don't list it. Unless you were there for a very long time you don't have to list it on your application. If you were, there must have been a good reason for getting fired. If not, you got problems.

Make a statement on the blank form provided that you left your job for advancement. I use to do it.

be honest about it, if you lie and they find out, you have no chance of getting the job, or if they hire you and find out, its ground to immediately fire you,
also where you really fired or layed off, if it wasn't your fault be sure they understand that, if you did screw up, be honest and clear that you learned your lesson
