Actually, there are two ways of looking at this. Of course, the teacher needs to be able to guide the learner toward the answer (with that in mind the teacher need to know the answer or at least how to find it). On the other hand, it has been said that the best way to learn something is to teach it.

Because a teacher is there to provide the learners with information. Teachers will pass that info on, and therefore teach others. If learners knew more than the teachers, think of the disruption in the classroom!! lol

hi dude
A teacher is considered as a person who is capable of bringing a change in the personality of a student. If a student wants a better personality he needs knowledge. His doubts are endless and so the resource should be endless. Only a teacher can direct him towards the right source of knowledge and bring him out as a good person. So a teacher need not learn the whole book or series to teach a student BUT shuld be able to select and produce to him the right material.
I aspire to be a trecher.
So do i think.

You've got to be kidding me--answer in essay form? Are you asking US to give you an essay for you to pass off as your own? Give me a break.
You need to come up with your own ideas and defend them. That's what will make you a better essay writer. Give it a shot. Start with ONE reason why a teacher should now more than the students. Then come up with as many as you can. Then you write about all those reasons, defending them with examples if you can.

Learning is an active process and not passive i.e students learn. Good teachers teach and not feed. Knowing more does not necessarily translate to more efffective teaching. Knowing more in the subject matter does help in better teaching. This is a result of being able to "show" more and point the students in the right direction. However, I am not about to wirte your essay for you. I do not intend to teach you to be lazy and crafty.

If the teacher does not know more than the learners, then the learners will not take the teacher seriously, thus making the teacher hate their job.
I don't want someone that is unqualified to be my teacher.

Because a teacher is there to teach the learners - that's why they are called "teachers"

Because otherwise they have no authority - a common problem among teachers today. Incidentally, if you want us to do your B.Ed or PGCE homework for you, I can already tell you're not going to make even the most basic of teacher grades.
