i am a junior civil servant in an african country where working too hard is never enough unless one is either too lucky or corrupt to make a breakthrough in life.Where the gap between the poor and the rich is getting winder every day.the going is getting too tough

Train them to become marathoners. Not sure why but you Kenyans seem to be good long distance runners!

It must be difficult, if not impossible!

I hear through acquaintances that there are people who make money in Kenya despite the corruption -- invariably, people in business rather than good honest wage earners like yourself.

Perhaps your children can through education come to master some skill that is in such demand in the world that they can get a visa to work abroad, and/or get well paid even in Kenya..... if lots of money is what they really beleive will make them happy.

Meanwhile, giving morally good service and being just with people will pay yourself handsome dividends in happiness even though you may not see the channels by which the hidden laws work.
