After formating the disk is clean to use afresh but there is always a chance to recover it. If formated more then 100 times still it can be recovered ,then what actually the size of the disk is and whr the files go ?

The location of all the files on a hard disk is stored in a table at the start of the harddisk

When you do a "quick format" all that happens is the references to the files are deleted. The files are still on the disk and can be recovered.

When you do a "full format" the entire disk is wiped and overwritten. However the data can still be recovered with specialist software.

They recon it takes 7 full formats to ensure that the data cannot be recovered.
