I am short so is it better option to have long dress/skirt or one that reaches the knees etc?

Try both and see which looks better with your body type.
I'm 5'3 but I've always went with a long dress and 41/2 inch heels.

I am also very short 4' 10 i find a dress with a hankerchief hem works great ( meaning uneven hem) If you have a mall around you thats has a Deb's in it they have some great selections.

there might be some long dresses that'll look good on you. think of Eva Longoria, she's small but still wears long gowns.
