A socialist government does not mean that everything is owned by the goverment. it means that the government is elected from a party with socialist ideology, meaning they intend to base their policies on more equitable redistribution of wealth and will tend to redress the unfairness of their economic system. They may provide health, education etc.. democracy and socialism are not antonyms since a sign of democracy is a popularly elected government

The difference is like a ford and a toyota.one Japanese made in America the other American made in japan.The only differace is the name.We are a Republic that is more socialist sometimes ruled by a dictator that is part of the elite few.
