I recently applied for a job with the State of Utah Veterans counselor. I have a masters degree in social work. I'm a disabled combat veteran, drawing a pension. I'm licensed by this state to practice in my field.

I wasn't so much as given the opportunity to interview for the position. Yesterday I learned who the candidate selected was and that person is a Sex Offender J.B. Shandrew.

I want to write to the governor and demand an investigation into this selection of this individual. Am i out of line, i mean this sex offender doesn't even have a college degree.

Welcome to the neocon notion of fairness--now you know what they really think of our military and veterans.

But here's a heds up. Discrimination against people with disabilities is rampant. You have grounds for taking legal action--and should. But be prepared for a fight--contrary to the public rhetoric, the existing laws are not there to protect you, but to protect employers--and discrimination is still considered acceptable--if the victim is a person with a disability.
That doesn't mean you don't have a winnable case--you almost certainly do--but it won't be easy.

I have never heard of this person but that means nothing. There are a lot of people I have never heard of, and the remote possibility exists that the people who hired him never heard of him either, even if the story of his expoits had been in the papers at one time. So if he is in fact a verified sex offender then you should be able to call him a sex offender, but it is always good to use the term "appears to be" or I think that..." this person might be a sex offender. To say "this person IS a sex offender" always leaves the door open to lawsuits so it is better to get the point across by saying "it seems that his name may appear on a list of sex offenders", or "I think it may be possible that his name might appear on a list of sex offenders" and so approach the subject a little obliquely without making an unqualified statement that "he IS a sex offender". By adding qualifiers to your statement "I think that..." it becomes the nature of an opinion, and you are certainly able to voice an opinion. An opinion is different than stating something as a fact. The person reading your opinion then would get the message, and be able to check it out if, like me, they had never even ever heard of this guy.

I have been through exactly this sort of thing in the past myself, and this is what my lawyer told me I should have said, rather than labeling the scumbag exactly as he was.

Wow...god bless america huh?
Personally I don't think sex ffenders should be employed anywhere, I think they should be gathered up and taken to an island where they can all just offend and molest each other instead of innocents....I am actually serious...don't care if I have "offended" anyone by that....they can not be rehabilitated so bye bye...
About you and the positon you applied for, it sounds too horrible to be true with all your qualifications...is this sex ofender connected to some one of importance in the state?.....That owuld be my take, try looking into that if you can....it is ridiculous, in our over politically correct counrtry, once again, the "mob" at work.....can't offend the offenders...don't want to seem against them...please...It is either that or he is connected....
sorry about that, whoever said life isn't always fair said a mouth ful....make a big fat stink....keep us posted....(but don't forget to put it in the form of a question...LOL...) good luck and good day.

You might want to double check your facts before you write. All persons hired for the Federal govt go through a series of security and background checks and this would certainly be found out. Additionally, any alleged college degrees are verified. I think someone is providing you with some bad info here.

If you do write a letter, the governor has no say over a federal matter. The governor would be a 'state' employee and this is 'federal'. You need to write your Congressman and Senator.

As I do not live in America, I am unable to advise you as to what your options are.

However I do completely understand your anger.

I know I would make a good leader in not only my current workplace but in any workplace. I know I have the right attitude, to lead people.

However the company prefers to promote people who are lazy and racist. A bad decision considering most of our employees are Visa workers from South Korea.

I live in Australia.

No I probable does no longer yet then i comprehend that castration des no longer get rid of the style of behaviour performed by skill of intercourse offenders (this would not advise i do no longer in user-friendly terms like the assumption of extreme punishment for those crimes). the inspiration of the difficulty for intercourse offenders is in many situations psychological and particularly often they see their behaviour as "organic" or that they have got carried out no longer something incorrect and castration does no longer get rid of this thinking. besides the certainty that, it could act as a deterrent for a great style of them. for my section I say build an island interior the process the sea as a techniques faraway from civilisation as accessible and bypass away them there to think approximately what they have carried out. and that they would not in any respect be waiting to do it returned! If you're sure of your facts, you can write to:
- Your governor
- Your local state legislature representative
- Your House district representative
- Your 2 senators
- Your local paper(s)
- Your local TV station(s)

But be careful - if you're not sure of your facts, you run the risk of being sued for libel and defamation of character.

I would complain, but I also would never work at that place or any place that supports a sex offender. That is my opinion.
But then there are human rights to think about...maybe this is why he was employed..........

Speaking of sex offenders, have you ever watched how Senator Durbin looks at other members of Congress?
