I brushed against some fire coral courtesy of another diver and wild arms out in Mexico ! It only got me on the very edge , I got some vinegar on it on the boat , now a week later I have a pinhead itchy rash all over my hand it stops where my wetsuit was on my wrist , is this normal for the reaction to take a week ? thanks

It is not uncommon for the rash, itching and burning to recur after these symptoms have resolved initially because tiny, microscopic fragments of living coral can remain in the wound. In addition, a cyclic immune response (redness, inflammation, itching, and swelling, itching or burning) can persist for a few weeks after the incident.

You should still go see a doctor though, it is most likely from the fire coral but it is also possible that you may have picked up a parasite.

Good Luck, hope it clears up soon...;-)

You did well to put some vinegar over the affected area. You waited for a week to go and see a doctor?! Go and see a doctor now if the affected area is still bothering you. Usually right after an incident through some marine animal (fire coral, seaanemones, jellyfish) like that does happen and depending through what you got stung you put vinegar, baking-powder or papain on the affected area. Then you shave off the affected area and put some lotion or cream on it which contains cortison. Then you watch for a short while to see if there is an allergic reaction or an infection which does develop. But a week is too long to wait. If you still have a problems with this, go and see a doctor to know what is going on and to be sure.

yes it is. if it doesn't go away after 2 weeks or so, go see a doctor to have it checked out. actually, it's best to have it checked out right away to make sure that you don't have any allergy to it. I had an incident with fire coral too, in shorties no less. I only got a very minor rash though (it still itched and stung). My rash disappeared after a few days although I'm told it's normal to have it for a week or so.

Vinegar was ok(Or lemmon juice too). Then Hidro cortison for a short period, without exposing the part to sunlight.
Itching can endure for one or two weeks sometimes, especially if you are more sensitive than others to the poison of the "fire coral". Maybe, too, that you are allergic to it.
I suggest to go to a doctor, just to be sure that everything happening "is under controll".
Meanwhile, try to not scratch the part,in order to not create a "wound".
Don't worry: everything will be resolved in few more days.
Regards.
