at this age, my pedia always said that milk is still number 1. if he eats a bit and drinks lots of milk, then there's no problem. watch his weight gain, if its not enough, then he lacks milk.

im very careful about allergies so my son didnt get much more than baby cereals mixed with some fruit or veggie until he turned 1 (less than 1 month ago) only after that did i start giving him table food.

At 11 months old you should start weaning him off your breast and have him eat more foods. You simply have to say NO to breast feeding if you want to stop. Give him a bottle or sippy cup during the day (it can have your breast milk in it for nutrition). When he gets up during the night to be fed you can try offering him the sippy cup or bottle with water or some of your breast milk.
As far as food goes, Offer him things that you eat. He can basically eat anything at his age, just remember to keep the pieces small. Keep offering him everything..soon you will see exactly what he likes and doesn't.

I highly recommend two books - Gina Ford's Contented Little Baby Book which will give you schedules and routines to structure your child's day. My daughter, is 11 months, and has just two breastfeeds a day 7:30 in the morning after she wakes up, and 6:45 at night right before she goes to sleep. That is it. The rest of the day she has a full breakfast, lunch and dinner. She also takes a 2 hour nap from 12:30-2:30 and sleeps from about 7 PM at night until 7 the next morning. Your baby does not need the breastmilk if he is eating enough during the day.

The second book, which provides an excellent resource of what foods to feed your baby - is Super Baby Foods by Ruth Yaron. She has a schedule of what foods to feed your baby at what month. Pretty much anything is open to feed your baby at 11 months, but if he has never been a good eater, it may be good to slowly start introducing foods one at a time instead of trying to make something too complicated.

Start with the sweeter milder foods - sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, apples pears bananas. Avocados are an amazing source of vitamins and oils which are essential for your baby's brain development. (you can make this all homemade, very easily - steam, puree, freeze in ice cube trays and use just what you need)

then move on to stronger vegetables - like broccoli, kale, zucchini, eggplants. you can also use tofu, legumes, and whatnot.

My daughter eats three square meals of whole grain porridge with various vegetables mixed in. Your baby can eventually do this too!

Slowly ease up on the breast feeding. Offer food BEFORE breastmilk - wait until he's very hungry and try. Keep it simple - not too many distractions and just focus on the food and be patient. Kids at this age figure out if you're freaking out about meals and will often not eat just to get your goat! Good Luck.

If you have a breastpump use some of the milk to add to rice cereal. It sounds like it is time to start weaning him. He is almost a year-old, and that is when most doctors recommend weaning. By 11 months he should be on 2nd foods. My son had mostly homemade baby food and around 9 months be was eating diced, well-cooked carrots and peas on his high chair tray. Also, to keep him from waking at night, offer him the rice cereal jsut before bed. This should keep him full longer.

at 11 months he really only needs milk after his meals and at bedtime. I suggest trying to keep busy to keep him off your breast during the day. he will be hungrier if not full of milk. he will whinge and whine to start but you need to keep busy and ignore it. perhaps go to playgroup or the park, keep him on the move so to speak,so he can't undress you. keep offering healthy snacks and mealos.don't expect him to eat everything in the bowl. You would be surprised how many people think once they start solids they will eat an almost adult sized meal. I was really shocked at the amount of food some people put on a toddlers plate.
things like fish fingers, carrot sticks(cooked) potato mashed iwht pumpkin for a bit of flavour home made meat rissole are good.also pasta, noodles etc.

An 11 month old doesn't need his food pureed. Just cut up cooked veggies and fresh fruit into chunks big enough for him to pick up and feed himself. He can also have pasta, meat (in tiny pieces), bread, and anything else he can chew up and not choke on.
