Or generally anything additional I can find out.
Many Thanks for any advice

If the email was sent to a Yahoo account, here is what you can do:
Once you open the email (don't download anything), scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see 'Full Headers' on the right side of the screen just above the 'Search Mail' and 'Search the Web' buttons. Click on 'Full Headers' and scroll back to the top of the email. You will see ISP information and the IP address (The IP address will be a series of numbers and look something like this: 68.4.180.107) where the email originated. You can look up the IP address here:

www.ip2location.com/free.asp
www.maxmind.com/app/locate_ip

This is how you can determine the city, (approximate) state and country the email was sent from. You can also find out the sender's Internet Service Provider, if that info is important to you.

***As far as I know, your computer does not become infected with a virus upon opening an email; the virus is usually in the attachment. So, do not downloand the attachment unless you can determine who the email is from.

You can find out where they come from by tracing the IP adress (in the headers under X-Originating IP)

If there is info, you`ll need to know a name.
Sometimes a Yahoo or Google search on the email address reveals information.

Please note that an attachment sent unannounced from an unknown source is 99% sure a virus or a trojan.

Why do you want to do this? If this is a hacker, who may be trying to steal your personal info etc, or someone trying to infect your computer with a virus, then any contact you make with them will confirm that you exist.Leave well alone and don't open any e-mail from unknown sources.

NEVER open an email from someone you don't know, especially if it has an attachment. That's the way you get infected. Just delete it.
