Billy Kreutzmann was the original drummer for the Grateful Dead.
Mickey Hart joined the band as a second drummer in 1967, but quit in 1971 after his Dad, who was the band's financial manager, stole a ton money from the band.
Mickey rejoined the Grateful Dead in 1975 permanently after a lot of convincing by Phil and Jerry.

Originally Bill Kreutzmann was the original drummer but while working on the band's 2nd album Anthem Of The Sun they hired a second drummer named Mickey Hart. However, due to the fact that Mickey's father had become the band's finacial manager and had stolen band funds he left in Febuary of 1971. He says that it was his idea to leave. He officially returned in 1976 although he had played at the band's last show in '74 and the band's 1975 shows. He's been with the band since.

actually, there were two. micky hart and bill kreutzman. bk kept a fairly low profile.
