I am generally against capital punishment as a sentence for crime. I believe rehabilitation should always be explored.
BUT
I am concerned by the level of reoffending and general decline in the standards of society. There are too many do gooders about championing the cause of BAD PEOPLE.
With the curent state of affairs why dont we review the individuals in prison and cast further judgement? Some people are irretrievable. I suggest a cull.
eg
37 y.o. male in and out of prison since aged 18. Contributes feck all to society during his 20 months broken liberty over the years. No sign of reforming.
Dust down the noose.
We must also think of some of the decent families these criminals belong to. However, I believe a family can cope better with bereavement grief than the repetitive stress associated with their loved ones maladaptive behaviour. I know societry as a whole would.
Your opinions please remebering the decent majority rather than the deviant minority

I asked this question earlier and was curious as to why it did not appear on the list. I've just noticed that the 1st question was removed for violation so expect the same to happen with this.

The trouble is and I know some people will disagree with me obviously on this, but there are people out there who state we have far more people in prison than anywhere else in Europe.
Well there is a reason for that because you only have to look around to see the general standard of behaviour of the citizens
of this country you will understand why.
Travel around other countries and the standard of behaviour generally is far higher. Highest number of teenage pregnancies in Europe by long way. Highest number of unemployed households in Europe (though we don't have the highest unemployment rate). Scotland murder capital of Europe. Binge drinking is the in-thing in our city centres with all the low standard of behaviour, fighting and abuse that goes with it. The standard of behaviour from some of our teenagers is awful.
Basically the UK is the scum of Europe full stop I know some people won't like it (in denial) but it's true. You travel round Europe and the general behaviour is better. I'm not saying you will never be mugged etc around Europe or anything like that, but I am saying is that in the UK it's worse.

I wonder how many of the 'maladaptives' you mention were sexually abused as children? Or physically abused?
My point being that people are the way they are because of their formative environments.
There has to be a solution to our social problems. That solution comes with actually dealing with the origins of why people turn out the way they do.
I am a product of my environment, so are you and everyone else reading this.
I am all for appropriate sentencing for people who are unable to comply with the laws of the land.
I am seriously concerned that two paedophiles (who suffer from paedophialia, an incuarable mental illness, have been set free).
That is at the heart of your question, I believe.
My solution is that we adhere to the laws of the land and sentence people appropriately, while searching for, and acting on, all available information, to treat those who offend, or come from environments where they are likely to turn into offenders.
We need to create makeshift accomodation in the short term - holding camps within a wire fence, guard dogs and prison officers, army officers, police officers working together as security. It is possible. Where there is a will, there is a way.
Our society has gotten larger. The percentage of offenders, if it remains a constant, will also continue to rise with population growth.
We are an intelligent society. We can create intelligent solutions.
What is that saying? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
I also think that the two judges involved in setting the two paedophiles free have not got the sllghtest idea of whom they were dealing with.
It's that, or that they are sympathetic to these men's beliefs that it is okay to have sex with children.

I feel we need to go back to basics. Prison is first a punishment. Until we make it a place no one wants to go to the chances are people will go there. There are many who should not be in prison and many out who should be. People who tell me that the prisoners human rights have to be looked after have never been assaulted or robbed. We have to build more places, bring back borstals and the death penalty. Deterrents we have none. Kids get away with being as bad as they want in school bring back the cane. Teach people that prison is hell and it will be for them if they get sent down. Not TVs, games rooms, gyms hard hard work and release only when the governor thinks its right not a board of busy bodies looking for MB E's.

Something on overcrowding:
Our local prison has 70% foregn nationals in it, I'm reliably informed - it contains the highest concentration of foreign nationals in a borough of 125000 people.
These people are in for drugs, illegal immigration, gang wars etc.
If other prisons are the same, then the prison overcrowding crisis would be solved at a stroke by repatriating these people - who are NOT british citizens.
Prison is often a revolving door. Many people (thanks to such things as political correctness) have been brought up to think they're something special, and kick back when society at large tells them they're not.

i've got self belief that once 5 offences the dying penalty is so as. 5 DUI's, 5 breaking and getting into 5 armed theft, 5 something. i've got self belief in 2d opportunities yet after 5 offences you have shown which you're no longer likely to rehabilitate and which you will probable return for 6 or 7 or greater offenses. i've got self belief the answer is 5 offences equals dying it is how we provide up over crowding prisons. This additionally facilitates fake imprisonment while you're convicted wrongly after which you reside sparkling no difficulty while you're falsely convicted 5 situations sorry yet not greater opportunities. they ought to even upload up. a million DUI, a million armed theft, and 3 breaking and getting into equals a entire of 5 meriting dying. sparkling out the essential offenders and set an occasion to different people who in usa we don't play and crime does not pay. It has additionally been my journey that once people circulate to community jails they study greater criminal events from being housed with different criminals dying has a manner of wraping up and detering all forms of issues while applied regular.

Your question was probably removed for violation because the term you used (final solution) refers to the extermination of the Jews during World War 2.)
Our prisons are overcrowded because we lock up low level criminals for non violent crimes. The death penalty is simply not an effective way of keeping us safe.
A couple of your answers are not based on the facts about death penalty. Revenge is no substitute for common sense based on the facts. Here are some of them (about the United States experience with the death penalty)
Re: cost
The death penalty costs far more than life in prison.
Re: Risk of executing an innocent person
Over 120 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence. Many of these had already served over a decade. If we speed the process we are bound to execute an innocent person.
Re: Deterrence
The death penalty is not a deterrent. Murder rates are actually higher in states with the death penalty than in states without it. Moreover, people who kill or commit other serious crimes do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)
Re: Alternatives
More and more states (48 of 50) have life without parole on the books. Life without parole means what it says and is no picnic.
Re: Who gets the death penalty
The death penalty is not reserved for the “worst of the worst,” but rather for defendants with the worst lawyers. When is the last time a wealthy person was sentenced to death, let alone executed??
Re: Victims families
People should know that the death penalty is very hard on victims’ families. They must relive their ordeal in the courts and the media. Life without parole is sure, swift and rarely appealed. Some victims families who support the death penalty in principal prefer life without parole because of how the death penalty affects families like theirs.
Last of all, opposing the death penalty does not mean a person condones brutal crimes or excuses the people who commit them. I believe that the dialogue on the death penalty should be based on verifiable facts. People should make up their minds using common sense not revenge.

I think it strange that the prisons are full of people who have committed fraud, or have a dept they won't or can't pay ;and yet they let paedophiles out to commit their crimes again. Something is wrong somewhere.
Surely, crimes where the prisoner is not dangerous to the public; should be dealt with in a different way. Army style training perhaps...
That would make more room in the prisons surely?

think about it ( tougher sentences + less criminals waying up the odds = less crime and more prison places ) quite simple really .
people may say well if you did that we would have more prisoners yet the oposite is aparent as they have given lesser and lesser sentences , letting people off and the such , well what happens is people way up the risks people are more likely to affend crime breads and you end up wih a vicous cycle and a never ending problem.

Some prisoners are foreign, so the solution would be to deport them to the country of their origin (ok, they were born here, but they're not British), so they should be sent to that country & serve their sentences there.
